About PSG Community Radio

PSG Community Radio (107.8 MHz) is the Coimbatore’s 1st FM Community Radio operating from the PSG College of Technology, the Institute of academic excellence. PSG College of Technology is a government aided autonomous college approved by AICTE and affiliated to Anna University, Coimbatore. It forms part of the educational institutions functioning under the management of PSG & Sons Charities Trust, the 85- year-old legacy doing yeomen service in the sectors of Education and Industry

PSG CRSShri G.Rangaswamy Managing Trustee, PSG & Sons Charities Trust and Shri C.R.Swaminathan Chief Executive PSG Institutions initiated the PSG Community Radio under the stewardship of Dr.R.Rudramoorthy, Principal, PSG College of Technology, with the aim of elevating the society on a larger canvas by blending its core mission of creating intellectual awareness with art & entertainment

The application for setting up the Community Radio was submitted to the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in September 2005 which in turn issued the Letter of Intent (LOI) in September 2006. And the WPC assigned the Frequency of 107.8 MHz in January 2007. Grant of permission of Agreement (GOPA) was signed between the PSG Tech. and the MIB in October 2007. The formal inauguration of the PSG Community Radio was held in December 2007 with 4 hours of broadcast 6.00 to 8.00 both morning and evening.

The station comprising of 1500 Sq. Ft. with a Discussion-cum-Recording Studio, an Editing Suite, a Transmission Booth and a Live-Studio. Equipments were procured from Bharat Electronics Limited, Bangalore. The field-based outdoor broadcast recording was done utilizing a TASCAM DR-01 Digital recorder and two Lap-top computers.

In Coimbatore, the Manchester of South India so far 8 Public and Private Entertainment Radio Stations share the air space, However, PSG Community Radio with its unique programmes has carved a niche for itself in the hearts of listeners. It gives thrust to the design of contents of programmes with the involvement of the Community. The Report of the Base Line Survey conducted by Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia, New Delhi in May 2009 stands testimony to the popularity of PSG Radio with its reach to 24 percent of the Coimbatore population in its coverage area

Following the guidance of the CEMCA, PSG CRS not only to empower the student community in every possible way but also help them acquire better learning skills, especially to the underprivileged sections of the society. Benefiting the people in the below poverty-line, PSG CRS plays a major role in disseminating vital information on Community Living, Government Projects, Primary Education and Community Health.
