The Indian Institute of Metals, Coimbatore chapter, started four decades ago, has been organising lectures, seminars, workshops and conferences on recent trends in the field of metallurgy and materials engineering.

The chapter regularly organizes training programmes for the young engineers from industries and academic institutions to update their knowledge on metals and materials. In addition, quiz programmes on materials and their processing are also being conducted for the students of schools and colleges.

The chapter has been selected for the best chapter award for the overall performance among small chapters consecutively for 5 years from 2011. In the year 2016 , it has been elevated to medium chapter.
